The Archipelago

It’s when you peer out of the airplane window that the magic begins. Scattered below you are some of the 24 000 islands that the Stockholm archipelago is made up by. Resembling pearls in the sea, they awake a longing to run barefooted on the cliffs, smell the sea, explore and simply immerse yourself in nature.

And in less than an hour by taxi and boat you can sit on your own pier mulling over whether to explore the islands by boat or by kayak, to read in the hammock, to pick wild strawberries, or just to lounge on the veranda watching the most spectacular shimmering sunset over the sea and sailing boats glide past.

The Island

The idyllic island of Stegesund is a haven of tranquillity without any cars, shops, or restaurants. What you do find are charming lilac-lined paths, meadows, a sandy beach, smooth granite cliffs and even a wooden tennis court from 1904.

And to complement this sense of remoteness, you are minutes away from numerous islands with ancient villages, lovely restaurants, cafes and activities. You can also take the one-hour breathtakingly beautiful ride on one of the many daily ferries to Stockholm (itself built on 14 islands!). Or venture further into the outer archipelago where the sea landscape changes dramatically.

The Villa and Garden

Seaside, west-facing Villa Bokdalen , built 1901, is ideal for family gatherings with its 5 bedrooms, 2 double sleeping lofts in the bathhouse and cottage, 5 shower rooms, 6 toilets, 2 living rooms, a study/lounge with seaview, a modern kitchen  a dining room and 4 verandas, one with a large bbq and dining table, overlooking the sea. Excellent wifi, a DVD player with film collection.

It has a private jetty with sailing boat depth, a tree-house with a telescope, a small artist’s studio with a glass wall facing the sea, table tennis, 3 traditional porcelain-tiled stoves and 1 fireplace in the main building and a traditional glass veranda. Many historical features remain and the house is flooded by sunlight. All  the floors and walls are painted white, peacefully reflecting the light and the glitter from the sea. The design is unique with each piece of furniture, painting and object having its own enchanting story to tell.

The garden is full of wild flowers, lilac, beech, birch, pine and cherry trees. There are wooden steps leading down to the sea from the main house, sun-warm cliffs for a little picnic, 2 hammocks and a wooden swing.
